The Next Big 2026 Texture Trend Is TILE!

Last year’s tile trends were all about bold colors, color blocking, pattern play, and zellige—which is, in fact, not going away in 2026. While texture and color will still reign supreme, we're seeing tiles with extra gusto not just in the bathroom or kitchen but throughout the home. According to Yelp’s 2026 Home & Living Trends, searches for tile contractors have surged 351%, with searches for eye-catching wall tile installation jumping by 35%, stone tile installation is up 25%, and artisanal Mexican talavera tile and mosaic tile installation went up by 22% and 21%, respectively.

Artist and designer, Mansi Shah, is noticing that people are leaning towards surfaces that have a tactile presence. “I think for a long time, tile was treated as a background material, something that's flat, uniform and utilitarian,” says Shah, who recently introduced a new ceramic tiled furniture collection. "There’s been an interest toward pieces that show the hand of the maker and highlight irregular edges, dimensional relief, layered glazes, and compositions where each tile has its own personality.” New York designer Alison Rose notes that it’s all about “celebrating the imperfect perfect.”

Tile manufacturers are on the same page, introducing unexpected designs that evoke materials such as leather and denim. It’s not just about giving your interiors a dose of maximalism; it’s about creating that tactile experience that exudes coziness by way of introducing depth. “Tile feels expressive rather than purely functional,” Shah adds.

So, what does this mean for 2026? Tile treatments are all about that je ne sais quoi that makes you want to reach out and graze your fingers along the ceramic texture. “Colors and textures set the tone,” says Renee Chiarelli, director and creative lead, who notes that the flat look of machine-made porcelain finish is losing its luster to surfaces that make you go “oooh and aah.” See our favorite variations implemented by designers and industry experts.
